Lion Dance

I saw my first Lion Dance at Giant, Senawang on Wednesday (13th February) evening. We were just lucky to be there before the dance started at 8.30pm as Ma wanted to get something from the nursery to rid of ants that have infested her garden.

The open area fronting Pizza Hut had been cleared for the dance. Members of the troupe were made up of teenagers of Chinese and Indian race. It used to be performed by Chinese only but has now generated interest among Indian teens...possibly for the pocket money, free travel and a name among their own community.

A close look at the colourful lion head

The fair lion approaching the pomelo and salad to be carved and presented later to the proprietor of Giant at the end of the dance.

The red headed lion joining in.

Lions collecting mandarin oranges and sweets to be given out...Pa got them from one of the lions.

Commencing their acrobatic movements...standing lion.

Standing lions...in pair

Final presentation of the carved fruit and salad presented to the Giant Management.

After the lion dance was over we headed back home with the ant repellent/ poison powder.

Pa also managed to capture the dance on movie. Check it out later in another post.
